CE Requirements

Hours of CE Classes Required:

Brokers, Broker Associates, Property Managers and Auctioneers:

24 hours every 2 years:
12 hrs Required Topics
12 hrs Elective Topics

NOTE: New licensees are required to take 30 hours of Post-Licensing education (Required Topics) during their 1st licensing period, and another 30 hours during their 2nd license cycle. Licensees may take the SAME set of classes during these 2 post-licensing periods.

Residential Rental Agents:
12 hours every 2 yrs in these categories: property management, fair housing, lease of real property, real estate contracts, and real estate license law.

Home Inspectors:
24 hours every 2 years in these areas: legal issues affecting home inspectors, building codes, business standards of practice, report writing, environmental issues, ethics, building components, computer skills, fair housing, antitrust, The Americans with Disabilities Act; and courses offered or approved by the SD plumbing or electrical commissions.

Maximum CE hours allowed per day:

South Dakota does not limit the number of CE classes you can take each day.

Quiz Requirements:

All classes have a short 5 question quiz at the end of each section plus a 25 question final exam to help improve your learning. You must score 80% to pass each quiz. If you score less than 80%, you can re-take the quiz an unlimited number of times.

After Completing Courses:

Immediately after finishing a course, you can view or print your Course Completion Certificate directly from the website by clicking on MY CLASSES. Training Cove® reports completion data to the South Dakota Real Estate Commission at least once per week. It may then take them up to 3 additional business days to update their system. You can view or manage your license using their License System
